William Strauss is the President and founder of FutureMetrics, LLC. FutureMetrics is a global leader in providing guidance for industrial and domestic pellet project development. He is also a founder and a Director of Maine Energy Systems, the largest manufacturer of European style automatic pellet fueled central heating systems in North America. Dr. Strauss is also the chief economist for the Biomass Thermal Energy Council (Washington, DC) and the chief economist for the Maine Pellet Fuels Association. He served as the chief economist on the Maine Governor’s Wood-to-Energy Task force in 2008.
Dr. Strauss is the 2012 recipient of the International Excellence in Bioenergy award.
Dr. Strauss has more than thirty-five years of strategic and policy planning, project management, data analysis, and modeling experience in the renewable energy sector. His professional history includes executive positions as director, president, and senior vice president, as well as positions as a senior analyst, field coordinator, and operations manager.
He has an MBA (specializing in Finance) and a PhD (Economics, Earth Systems Science). His work on the economics of biomass power and thermal, and on the sustainability and the carbon benefits of biomass fuels are widely published and cited.
Dr. Strauss, is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the New England Complex Systems Institute. He is the past chair of the Northeast Biomass Thermal Working Group. Dr. Strauss is also the past president of the western Maine Chamber of Commerce. FutureMetrics is a member of the Biomass Thermal Energy Council, the Wood Pellet Association of Canada, the Maine Pellet Fuels Association, and is a member of the Maine International Trade Center.
Dr. Strauss enjoys mountain biking in the summer and skiing in the winter. He has logged almost one million vertical feet helicopter skiing in British Columbia, Canada.
